The Special Adviser to Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun on Youth Affairs, Olamide Lawal, has called for increased participation of Nigerian youths in politics to drive positive change and sustainable development.
Lawal made the call during an interfaith prayer programme held in Abeokuta and organised by the Yayi Youth Vanguard with the theme, “Consolidating a Brighter Future for Ogun Youth: Inclusiveness in Politics and Governance.”
He noted that active involvement of young people in governance would enable them to contribute meaningfully to policy formulation and decision-making processes.
According to him, youth participation is essential to ensuring that the benefits of democracy reach grassroots communities and reflect the aspirations of younger generations.
Lawal also urged young people to support the re-election of President Bola Tinubu, the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun, and the governorship ambition of Olamilekan Adeola.
He stressed that failure of youths to engage in politics weakens their moral standing to criticise government performance.
“The essence of this gathering is to awaken the political consciousness of young people. We are in a political season, and when choosing leaders, youths must be actively involved,” he said.
He added that mobilisation efforts would focus on encouraging peaceful participation while discouraging electoral violence and thuggery as the 2027 elections approach.
Also speaking, the Director-General of the National Sports Commission, Bukola Olopade, represented by Abiola Odetola, urged youths to support Adeola’s governorship ambition, describing it as aligned with youth-focused governance.
An Ogun State House of Assembly member, Bisi Oyedele, further encouraged young people to prepare for leadership roles, noting that their involvement is crucial to nation-building and governance.
