A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has urged members of the party to remain united after its primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Rhodes-Vivour stressed that unity within the party would be critical to building a strong opposition capable of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress.
He noted that internal divisions after party primaries have historically weakened opposition parties in Nigeria, making it difficult to present a credible alternative during general elections.
According to him, disagreements arising from primaries should be resolved internally, with all members prioritising the collective interest of the party over personal ambitions.
Rhodes-Vivour emphasised that the ADC is part of a broader coalition effort aimed at repositioning opposition politics in Nigeria ahead of the 2027 elections.
He stated that the success of the party would depend on its ability to maintain cohesion, discipline, and a shared vision after candidates emerge from the primaries.
The former Lagos governorship candidate also urged party leaders to ensure transparent and credible primary processes to reduce post-primary conflicts.
He added that inclusiveness and fairness in candidate selection would strengthen trust among party members and supporters.
Rhodes-Vivour reiterated that Nigerians are looking for a viable alternative, and only a united opposition can effectively deliver that outcome in 2027.
His comments come amid ongoing political realignments and coalition-building efforts across parties ahead of the next general elections.
