2027: APC screens Kwara gov for Senate
Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has been screened by the Senatorial Aspirants’ Screening Committee of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the party’s primaries for the Kwara Central Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.

The screening, which took place in Abuja from May 9 to May 10, formed part of the party’s internal process aimed at verifying the eligibility of aspirants and ensuring that candidates seeking elective offices are free from legal and electoral encumbrances before the primaries. A senior aide to the governor, Bashira Kolawole, confirmed the development in an exclusive interview with in Ilorin on Tuesday.

“This information is true,” she showed, declining to provide further details about the outcome of the screening exercise or the governor’s next political steps. AbdulRazaq, who is expected to complete his constitutionally permitted two terms in office on May 29, 2027, is currently the sole aspirant for the Kwara Central Senatorial ticket under the APC, having reportedly emerged as the only party member to purchase the nomination and expression of interest forms for the seat.

The development marks a major signal of the governor’s intention to remain active in the state’s political structure after leaving office, particularly as the contest for key elective positions ahead of 2027 gradually gathers momentum within the ruling party. also, the incumbent senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District, Salihu Mustapha, has also obtained the APC governorship nomination form, setting the stage for a highly competitive succession race within the state chapter of the party.
