Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri on Friday formally joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), signalling a significant political realignment in the northeastern state.
Fintiri’s defection comes after weeks of intense speculation and political movements in the state, which saw 15 members of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, including the Speaker and his deputy, resign from the PDP amid internal party crises.
The mass resignations were widely seen as setting the stage for the governor’s decision to leave the opposition party. Several lawmakers cited ongoing troubles within the PDP at the national level as their reason for quitting.
Fintiri’s move bolsters the APC’s dominance ahead of the 2027 general elections, extending its influence across more states. Political observers say the shift underscores growing challenges within the PDP and the ruling party’s ability to attract prominent figures from rival parties.
