A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress has accused several state governors of treating Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a “Tin God” in a bid to secure their political survival.
The opposition figure alleged that some governors are aligning themselves closely with the president and the ruling All Progressives Congress primarily to protect their political interests.
According to the ADC chieftain, the development reflects a broader pattern in Nigerian politics where politicians seek to maintain favourable relationships with the federal government to safeguard their positions and influence.
He argued that such behaviour weakens democratic institutions and discourages independent leadership at the state level.
The comment comes amid increasing political realignments and defections across the country, as politicians position themselves ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Political observers say the accusations highlight the growing tension between the ruling party and opposition groups as debates intensify over the balance of power between the federal government and state governments.
Similar criticisms have previously been raised by opposition figures who argue that the centralisation of political influence around the presidency could undermine democratic accountability and political competition.
