Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has formally resigned from his position in order to focus on his governorship ambition in Oyo State. Reports say his resignation was conveyed in a letter dated April 22, 2026, and addressed to President Bola Tinubu through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

According to the reports, Adelabu stated that his resignation will take effect on April 30, 2026, to allow for a smooth and orderly handover of responsibilities at the Ministry of Power.

In the letter, the minister expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve, noting that it had been an honour to contribute to national development and reforms in the power sector under the present administration.

Adelabu also said his decision to step down was informed by his intention to fully pursue his longstanding governorship ambition in Oyo State. The development follows earlier reports that he had met with President Tinubu over the move before formally submitting his resignation.

The resignation marks a major political development in the build-up to the 2027 election season, as Adelabu shifts attention from the power sector to Oyo State politics.
