Aiyedatiwa Sets Up Committee to Review Minimum Wage Implementation at RUGIPO
Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved the constitution of a committee to review the implementation of the new minimum wage at Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, RUGIPO. The decision followed engagements involving the state government, the institution’s management and labour unions over the harmonisation of salary payments for workers.

The committee is headed by the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr. Olaolu Akindolire. Other members are Dr. Wunmi Ilawole, Mr. Olaleye Phillips, Mr. Asonja Oluwole Festus and Mr. Abiodun Ogunduboye. The panel is expected to work with the polytechnic’s management, unions and relevant state agencies to audit payroll data, reconcile implementation gaps and recommend a sustainable payment structure.

As part of efforts to stabilise the institution, Governor Aiyedatiwa has also cleared the outstanding three months’ salary arrears owed to members of staff. The Commissioner for Education, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, said resolving the salary issues had become necessary to restore confidence among both academic and non-academic workers.

Meanwhile, the governor has confirmed the substantive appointment of Dr. Simeon Olorunwa Adegun as Rector of the institution. Dr. Adegun had been serving in acting capacity since October 2024. Governor Aiyedatiwa said his administration remains committed to workers’ welfare and to sustaining effective operations in state-owned tertiary institutions.
