Ondo State Governor, Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has intensified calls for unity within the All Progressives Congress, urging aspirants and stakeholders to embrace consensus and avoid internal rivalry capable of weakening the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The governor said political ambition is legitimate, but should not be allowed to override the collective interest of the party. He maintained that peace and cohesion within the APC remain critical to its electoral strength and long-term stability.
Aiyedatiwa explained that the APC provides room for both consensus and direct primaries in selecting candidates, noting that consensus would remain the preferred option where stakeholders are able to reach agreement. He said such an approach would help preserve party unity and improve the chances of success in future elections. That position is consistent with earlier public comments in which he said he had not endorsed any aspirant and that the party would explore consensus in choosing candidates.
He also urged aspirants to remain patient, loyal and politically mature, saying disunity at the primary stage could have lasting consequences for the party. The governor assured party members that participation and loyalty would not be overlooked, while encouraging them to remain committed to the APC regardless of the outcome of the selection process.
The governor further warned against a return to political violence and said the present political climate in the state should not accommodate acts capable of disrupting peace. He added that security agencies have continued to respond proactively to threats, expressing confidence in the state’s security structure. In other recent remarks, he has also linked improved security to intelligence-driven operations and stronger community-based responses.
Aiyedatiwa said stakeholder engagements across the senatorial districts form part of a broader consultation framework designed to improve feedback, deepen grassroots participation and bring governance closer to the people. Earlier APC meetings in Akure and Ore similarly focused on party discipline, unity and consensus ahead of future contests.
