Public affairs analyst Segun Akeredolu has attributed the persistent crises within political parties in Nigeria to selfish interests among members and a general disregard for the rule of law.
Speaking on Glow FM’s current affairs programme, Issues in the Dailies, Akeredolu noted that the Peoples Democratic Party is currently deeply affected by these challenges, adding that similar trends are gradually spreading to other political parties.
According to him, internal conflicts driven by personal ambition and lack of discipline have weakened party structures and contributed to instability within the political system.
Meanwhile, a caller who reacted during the programme expressed a different view, arguing that the major problem facing opposition parties is not the people but the judiciary, suggesting that court decisions often shape the direction of party leadership disputes.
The discussion comes amid growing concerns over the state of the PDP, following comments by Seriake Dickson, who expressed deep sorrow over what he described as the collapse of the party.
Dickson said former President Goodluck Jonathan would be saddened to see the platform that produced him as president deteriorating before his eyes.
Political observers say the situation reflects broader concerns about internal democracy, leadership crises, and the role of institutions in shaping Nigeria’s political landscape.
