The All Progressives Congress (APC) has extended the deadline for the sale and submission of forms for its zonal congresses and national convention, the party announced on Tuesday.
In a notice signed by the National Secretary, the party explained that the extension was granted to allow more aspirants and party members adequate time to obtain and return completed forms ahead of internal elections and leadership conventions.
The original deadline had been approaching quickly, prompting concerns among some party stakeholders that many aspirants — particularly those in remote areas or with logistical challenges — might miss the opportunity to participate in the process.
According to the party’s statement, the extension will help ensure wider participation and more competitive engagement ahead of key internal contests, including the selection of delegates and other party officials.
The new timelines for the sale and submission of zonal congress and convention forms are expected to be communicated to party structures and aspirants shortly, with emphasis on compliance and transparency.
APC’s decision comes amid ongoing preparations ahead of ward and local government congresses, which are part of the broader sequence of internal elections leading to the 2027 general elections.
Party leaders said the extension reflects a commitment to inclusiveness and organisational cohesion, noting that “opportunities should not be lost due to avoidable timing constraints.”
The move has been welcomed by some aspirants who described it as a “needed adjustment” that provides additional breathing room for stakeholders across the country.
However, political observers warn that extending deadlines may also heighten tensions among aspirants and could influence dynamics ahead of primary elections.
