The People’s Democratic Party has suffered a legal setback after the Court of Appeal of Nigeria sitting in Abuja affirmed a judgment barring the party from proceeding with its national convention earlier scheduled in Ibadan.
The appellate court upheld the decision which restrained the party from conducting the convention slated for November 15 and 16, 2026, citing unresolved legal issues surrounding the exercise.
The ruling effectively validates the earlier judgment that stopped the planned convention, a development that has further complicated internal political processes within the party.
The convention was expected to bring together party leaders and delegates from across the country to deliberate on key issues affecting the party, including internal reforms and leadership matters.
However, the court’s decision means the party must first address the legal concerns raised before proceeding with any such national gathering.
Political analysts say the development could have implications for the party’s internal stability as it prepares for future political activities.
