Students of Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, have raised an alarm over the increasing wave of armed robbery attacks on their off-campus hostels. The affected students, many of whom reside in areas such as Iworoko and its environs, reported that several hostels were raided in the early hours of Tuesday, March 31, 2026. According to eyewitness accounts, the robbers, armed with dangerous weapons, broke into several rooms and made away with expensive electronics, cash, and other personal belongings.
The victims of the attacks described the experience as traumatic, noting that the frequency of these incidents has made it difficult for them to focus on their academic pursuits. Several students have taken to social media to share their experiences and call for urgent intervention from the university management and the state government. They are demanding an increased police presence in student-populated areas, particularly during the night, and have called for better street lighting to deter criminal activities.
In response to the outcry, the EKSU management has expressed its sympathy to the affected students and assured them that it is working closely with security agencies to address the situation. The university's security department stated that it has already initiated patrols in collaboration with the local police to forestall further attacks. Students have also been advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements within their neighborhoods to the appropriate authorities.
