Troops of the Nigerian Army under the 13 Brigade Nigerian Army have reportedly foiled an ambush by suspected criminals while responding to a communal dispute in Odonget Community.
The incident occurred in Obubra Local Government Area of Cross River State.
The development was disclosed in a statement signed by Yemi Sokoya, the Assistant Director of Army Public Relations at the Headquarters of the 13 Brigade.
According to the statement, the incident took place on March 12, 2026, after troops stationed at Ochon and Alesi received credible intelligence about rising tensions linked to a communal disagreement in Odonget Community.
The troops were immediately mobilized to the area to prevent the situation from escalating into violence. However, while responding to the distress call, the soldiers reportedly encountered suspected criminals who attempted to ambush them.
The statement noted that the troops swiftly repelled the attack and successfully foiled the ambush, thereby preventing further escalation of the crisis.
Military authorities said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to maintain peace and stability in communities experiencing disputes.
Residents of the affected communities were urged to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies while lawful measures are taken to restore order in the area.
