The Nigerian Army has issued a public advisory to residents of Lokoja and surrounding communities ahead of a scheduled shooting range exercise in the area.
In a statement, military authorities explained that the exercise is part of routine training designed to improve the combat readiness and marksmanship of personnel. Residents were informed that they may hear gunfire and notice increased movement of troops and military equipment during the period.
The Army urged members of the public not to panic at the sound of gunshots, emphasizing that the activity is controlled and strictly for training purposes. Similar exercises in other states have been described as essential for maintaining operational efficiency and weapon handling skills among soldiers.
For safety reasons, residents were advised to avoid the designated shooting range and its surrounding areas throughout the duration of the exercise. The military stressed that these precautions are necessary to prevent accidents and ensure public safety.
Authorities also appealed for cooperation and understanding from the public, noting that such exercises are critical to strengthening national security efforts.
