Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has denied reports circulating on social media that he has retired from active politics. In a statement issued through his media aide, Paul Ibe, Atiku described the reports as false and deliberately misleading.
According to the statement, Atiku said he did not hold any recent meeting with stakeholders of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, at the national level where such a decision was taken. He clarified that his only recent engagement was with ADC stakeholders in Adamawa State last Thursday.
The former vice president said a decision as important as quitting active politics would never be communicated through rumours, faceless sources or unofficial channels. He maintained that any such development, if it ever happens, would be formally announced by the Atiku Media Office.
Atiku further alleged that the rumour forms part of a coordinated disinformation campaign designed to create confusion, dampen political momentum and mislead the public. He urged his supporters, ADC members and other Nigerians to ignore the report and remain focused.
