The Benue State Government is to collaborate with the International Organisation for Migration and the National Emergency Management Agency to strengthen local communities on disaster risk reduction.

The Executive Secretary of the Benue State Emergency Management Agency, Dr James Iorpuu, this on Thursday during the distribution of food and non-food items to internally displaced persons across the 15 camps and host communities in the state.

Iorpuu expressed confidence that the project, when fully implemented, would strengthen local emergency management structures and provide critical training for grassroots emergency volunteers across the state.

He showed, “Benue SEMA is pleased with the ongoing initiative to collaborate closely with the International Organization for Migration and the National Emergency Management Agency to strengthen local communities in Benue State on disaster risk reduction. “We believe this initiative will greatly improve preparedness, resilience, and community-based response mechanisms in times of emergencies and disasters.

” The SEMA boss reaffirmed the commitment of the agency to continue discharging its duties with integrity, honesty, transparency, and accountability. “We remain determined to serve humanity with compassion and dedication while ensuring that every support entrusted to us reaches the intended beneficiaries,” Iorpuu indicated.

He, however, appreciated all the partners, both international and local, for their sustained collaboration and commitment towards supporting communities in need of humanitarian assistance. He indicated, “Your partnership has remained invaluable in ensuring that relief materials reach those who need them most.

Together, we continue to make meaningful progress in alleviating suffering and restoring dignity to displaced populations. ” No fewer than one million internally displaced persons are camped in the 15 designated camps and host communities across the state.
