Renowned Nigerian gospel artiste Busola Oke has spoken candidly about her ongoing financial and emotional struggles, revealing that she is hungry, depressed and struggling under mounting debt.
In a candid live session on social media that quickly went viral, the “Eleyele” singer — known for her celebrated gospel hits — broke down in tears as she described the pressure of making a living in the current music landscape. She apologised to fans and said she is contemplating quitting the industry due to persistent hardships.
“I’m sorry to my fans…I can’t take it anymore. I’m done… Good music doesn’t sell anymore,” she said during the emotional livestream. Her comments underscored how difficult it has become to earn stable income from her craft.
Oke explained that she has not owned a car since 2020, faces overwhelming debt, and has struggled to cover basic needs such as food and accommodation. Money intended for essentials often goes on transport and shelter as she tries to stay afloat.
In an interview, she clarified that her emotional breakdown was triggered by intense loneliness and frustration, not suicidal thoughts, dismissing misleading reports that suggested otherwise. She said at no time did she express an intention to harm herself, emphasising that she was seeking reassurance and connection.
Fans and industry colleagues have reacted with concern and support, with many offering prayers and encouragement as the singer navigates this difficult period.
