Customs Warn Nigerians Against Viral Social Media Scams
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has issued a public warning over the spread of fraudulent messages and misleading information circulating on social media platforms.

In an official statement released on Monday, the agency clarified that the viral messages being shared online are false and did not originate from its authorized communication channels. The service urged Nigerians to ignore such content and rely only on verified sources for accurate updates.

According to the NCS, the circulation of fake messages has the potential to mislead the public, create unnecessary panic, and damage trust in official institutions. The agency emphasized that all legitimate announcements regarding its activities, policies, or operations are communicated exclusively through its verified platforms.

Officials also cautioned against the dangers of sharing unverified information, noting that doing so contributes to the rapid spread of misinformation. They encouraged citizens to confirm the authenticity of any message before forwarding it to others.

The warning comes amid growing concerns about online scams and fake announcements, particularly those relating to recruitment, auctions, or financial transactions falsely linked to government agencies.

The NCS reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and advised the public to stay vigilant, stressing that accurate information can only be obtained through its official website and verified social media accounts.
