Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido has revealed that his upcoming music project will strongly reflect African sounds and cultural influences.
The award-winning artist made this known during an interview on the Official UK Afrobeats Chart Show, where he spoke about the direction of his music and the next phase of his career.
According to him, he is now focused on creating music that represents his roots rather than trying to appeal to Western markets. He explained that after achieving global success, including selling out arenas and earning multiple Grammy nominations, his priorities have shifted.
Davido emphasized that the next body of work will be authentic to his identity, describing it as “very African” and a reflection of his true sound. He added that he no longer feels pressured to tailor his music to international expectations.
The singer also highlighted his strong fan base across Africa, particularly in South Africa, where he said a large percentage of listeners are familiar with his music. He attributed this to his consistent engagement with the region and collaborations with artists from the country.
This new direction signals a shift in Davido’s artistic journey, as he leans more into his heritage while continuing to maintain his global presence.
