El-Rufai Alleges Possible Arrest as Security Agencies Detain Associates
Former Kaduna State Governor,  Nasir El-Rufai, has alleged that he may soon be arrested by the Federal Government, following the detention of some of his close associates.

El-Rufai made the claim during an interview with newsmen, where he raised concerns over increasing political intimidation of opposition figures.

The former governor, who recently defected from the All Progressives Congress to the African Democratic Congress, said four individuals he worked closely with while in office in Kaduna State have already been arrested.

El-Rufai further alleged that political pressure is being exerted on politicians to either defect to the ruling party or remain within its fold, describing the current political climate as one driven by survival rather than conviction.

He noted that these developments are coming amid his growing criticism of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and the leadership of the APC.

The comments also come against the backdrop of the arrest and ongoing trial of a former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.

Meanwhile, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has accused Malami of offences including abuse of office and money laundering, while the Department of State Services later rearrested him over fresh allegations bordering on terrorism financing.

Malami, who also recently defected to the African Democratic Congress and is reportedly nursing a governorship ambition in Kebbi State ahead of the 2027 elections, has denied all allegations, describing them as politically motivated.

As of the time of filing this report, the Federal Government and the All Progressives Congress had not issued an official response to El-Rufai’s claims.
