Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior says he’s completely unfazed by the online jokes and memes that compare him to TV characters, stressing that he’s comfortable in his own skin as he continues a strong start at Stamford Bridge.
Recall that, Rosenior has won seven of his first nine games in charge of Chelsea F.C.. But while results have been positive, his energetic touchline presence and distinctive look have sparked social media comparisons to characters like Will McKenzie from The Inbetweeners and David Brent from The Office.
Rosenior, who says he doesn’t really use social media, explained that he only hears about the memes through his teenage children, who keep him updated on what’s being said online.
“I’m not afraid to be myself,” he said. “If I wear glasses, if I sound a little bit over the top when I speak, or articulate myself in a certain way, or I don’t look like a manager, it doesn’t bother me at all.”
He admitted the online jokes can sometimes affect his family, but added that he expected that kind of attention once he accepted one of football’s most scrutinized jobs.
