FG Insists Nigeria Safe As US Pulls Embassy Officials

The Federal Government has reacted strongly to the decision of the United States to authorize the departure of non-essential embassy officials from Abuja, insisting that Nigeria is safe for citizens and foreigners alike. In a statement released on Thursday, April 9, 2026, the government urged Nigerians not to panic, characterizing the US move as a routine administrative precaution that does not reflect the actual security situation on the ground.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation stated that Nigerian security agencies are on high alert and have made significant strides in neutralizing threats across the country. The government emphasized that intelligence-sharing with international partners continues, but maintained that "alarmist" travel advisories can cause unnecessary economic and social disruptions.
