Supporters of former Ogun State Governor and Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, have announced their withdrawal from the All Progressives Congress Ogun East Senate primary scheduled for Monday.
The decision was made public by the BATOGD Movement team in an official statement issued on Sunday. The group alleged that there were plans by some agents of the state government to unleash violence on supporters of the former governor during the primary election process, prompting their decision not to participate.
According to the statement, APC stakeholders had also advised Senator Daniel to stay away from the scheduled primary. The statement was signed by 35 members, including General Olumuyiwa Okunowo (rtd), Akogun Kola Onadipe, Otunba Fatai Sowemimo, Prince Segun Seriki, Hon. John Obafemi, Otunba Tayo Onayemi, Dr. Bankole Osisanya, Alhaja Ronke Carew, Rt. Remmy Hassan and Hon. Oludare Kadiri, among others.
The group stated that since joining the APC, they had remained committed to the party and had actively mobilised support across Ogun East Senatorial District. They also expressed appreciation for the support they said they had received from President Bola Tinubu.
However, the loyalists claimed that recent developments within the party were inconsistent with democratic principles and fair political competition. According to them, the situation no longer reflected the values of fairness and inclusiveness expected in a democratic system.
The development adds another dimension to political activities ahead of the 2027 elections in Ogun State, with attention now focused on how the APC leadership in the state will respond to the allegations and concerns raised by the group.
