I joined NDC because of Obi — FCT Rep
The member representing AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Chinedu Obika, has indicated his decision to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress was driven by the political direction of the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi. Obika, who won the seat in 2023 on the platform of the Labour Party, showed he remained in the party despite its prolonged internal crisis because of his loyalty to Obi and belief in his leadership.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, the lawmaker defended his recent political realignment and called on opposition politicians and Nigerians to work together ahead of future elections. “My position was clear. I was never going to leave the Labour Party unless our leader, Peter Obi, left. I waited for months, even when many members had already moved because I believed in his vision and leadership,” he indicated.

The lawmaker showed the crisis within the LP created uncertainty for members and candidates across the country, particularly over party structures and internal leadership disputes. The LP has, since the 2023 general elections, been embroiled in leadership tussles and legal battles that have triggered defections and deepened divisions within the party.

Obika showed Obi’s alignment with the emerging NDC coalition influenced many of his supporters to move in the same direction in order to sustain what he described as a broader national movement. from him, politics should be driven more by ideology, competence and leadership than by party labels. “When we talk about a new Nigeria, we must support people who truly believe in transformation and national development.
