The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to comprehensive institutional reforms, as he engaged international development partners and diplomatic missions in Abuja. The high-level stakeholders’ dialogue, held at the Force Headquarters in collaboration with the Police Reform Secretariat, brought together representatives of the United Nations Development Programme, UN Women, the British High Commission, as well as officials from Germany, Spain, Slovakia, and the National Institute for Police Studies.
From a post by the Force Public Relations Officer, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Anthony Placid, on X on Wednesday, speaking during the engagement, the IG showed the Force was determined to build “a modern, professional, intelligence-led and accountable institution rooted in the rule of law, respect for human rights and community partnership. ” based on him, the ongoing reform agenda is aimed at transforming the Nigeria Police Force into a technology-driven and citizen-focused institution capable of effectively addressing contemporary security challenges. “The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to transparency, professionalism, discipline and measurable reforms that align with global best practices while addressing Nigeria’s unique security realities,” the IGP outlined.
Also speaking, the Head of the Police Reform Secretariat, Professor Olu Ogunsakin, outlined key components of the reform programme, including legal and policy reforms, election security management, leadership development, oversight systems, and community trust-building initiatives. He stressed the importance of sustained collaboration with international partners in strengthening institutional capacity and ensuring the success of policing reforms across the country.
The dialogue forms part of ongoing efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to deepen institutional reforms and strengthen public confidence through strategic partnerships and improved service delivery.
