The Inspector-General of Police has ordered a nationwide deployment of police personnel to key locations ahead of the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
The directive mandates Commissioners of Police and other senior officers to ensure adequate security coverage at prayer grounds, recreation centres, public places, and critical infrastructure across the country.
According to police authorities, the deployment is part of proactive measures to prevent crime and guarantee the safety of lives and property during the festive period.
Security operations will include visibility patrols, intelligence gathering, stop-and-search activities, and surveillance of identified flashpoints to deter criminal activities.
The police are also working in collaboration with other security agencies to strengthen coordination and ensure effective coverage of vulnerable areas.
Officials stressed that the move is aimed at reassuring citizens and creating a secure environment for Muslim faithful and other residents to celebrate without fear.
The Inspector-General further urged Nigerians to remain vigilant, cooperate with security operatives, and report suspicious activities to authorities during the celebrations.
