The Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State has denied reports of the election or emergence of a new Oniko of Ikolaje Idiroko.
The council clarified that no candidate has been selected, elected, or declared as the monarch, warning individuals and groups against making premature claims to the throne.
The Secretary to the Local Government, Johnson Babajide says the council explained that the royal stool became vacant following the death of His Royal Majesty, Oba John Olakunle Ojo, Afiditi the Second and the succession process is currently ongoing and is being conducted in line with established traditional customs and the Chiefs Law of Ogun State.
The council disclosed that in line with the rotational arrangement, the Odunfa Ruling House, which is next in line, carried out its nomination exercise on February fourth, 2026, at the Ipokia Local Government Secretariat.
However, three nominees were presented by the ruling house and they are Prince Olagoriye Jonah Ariori, Prince Sunday Adekanmbi Olayode and Prince Olabowale Ade.
The local government noted that the next stage of the process is for the Ikolaje Idiroko Council of Kingmakers, known as the Afobaje, to meet and select one candidate from the nominees in line with the law while emphasising the integrity of the process, the council stressed that no election has taken place and no monarch has been appointed at this time.
It warned that anyone parading themselves or presenting any candidate as the new Oniko of Ikolaje Idiroko before the official conclusion and announcement of the process is acting unlawfully and may be held accountable for any breach of peace or public disorder.
Meanwhile, the council appealed to residents, ruling house members, candidates and their supporters to remain calm and law-abiding while the lawful process is concluded.
