Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Taskforce have arrested three suspected hoodlums for allegedly harassing and extorting motorists in different parts of the state.
The arrests were carried out during enforcement operations targeting individuals commonly known for preying on drivers, especially those with broken-down vehicles. The suspects were apprehended at separate locations, including Palmgrove along Ikorodu Road and the Oniru axis on Lagos Island.
Authorities revealed that the suspects were involved in forcefully confronting victims and demanding money or valuables under intimidation. The crackdown is part of ongoing efforts to eliminate the activities of street touts, popularly referred to as “omotaku,” who target vulnerable road users.
The latest operation follows earlier interventions by the taskforce in other parts of the state, where similar suspects were arrested for threatening motorists and attempting to extort them.
Officials have assured residents that enforcement operations will continue across identified hotspots to maintain order and ensure the safety of road users. The arrested suspects are expected to face prosecution in line with existing laws.
Authorities also reiterated their commitment to protecting motorists and eliminating all forms of harassment and intimidation on Lagos roads.
