Confirming the development, the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Moroof Akinwande, said the agency received a distress call at exactly eleven minutes past eight on Monday evening.
Akinwande says the alert came through a telephone call from the Baale of Ogunpa, Alhaji Nurudeen Lawal.
He explained that firefighters were immediately deployed to the scene and on arrival, discovered that ten shops had already been engulfed by the inferno.
Akinwande said the fire service personnel acted swiftly to contain the situation, preventing the fire from spreading to other shops and nearby properties, with support from the Federal Fire Service.
The fire, he added, was caused by a generator that was being refueled by one of the shop occupants.
Akinwande noted that no lives were lost in the incident and commended officers of the Nigeria Police from the Iyaganku Police Headquarters for providing security at the scene.
