Malami’s Bail Voided, Ex‑AGF and Family Remanded in Kuje Over Money Laundering Case
A Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday declared that the previous bail granted to former Attorney‑General of the Federation Abubakar Malami (SAN), his wife Asabe Bashir, and their son Abdulaziz Malami no longer subsists, following the reassignment of their money laundering trial to a new judge.

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik held that because the case commenced afresh before her court, all earlier proceedings — including the bail imposed by Justice Emeka Nwite — were legally terminated. As a result, she ordered that a fresh bail application be filed instead of relying on the previous one.

Malami, his son and his wife had earlier pleaded not guilty to the amended 16‑count charge filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which alleges money laundering and unlawful acquisition of assets amounting to about ₦8.7 billion

In her ruling, the judge directed that Malami and his son be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja, while his wife was ordered to be remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre in Niger State, pending the hearing of fresh bail applications.

Justice Abdulmalik adjourned proceedings to March 6 to hear the bail applications and fix a date for the commencement of the trial.
This development marks a significant twist in the high‑profile case involving one of Nigeria’s most senior lawyers and former chief law officers.
