The Federal Government has clarified that the reported security breach at the Akure Airport was not a targeted attack, addressing concerns raised by earlier reports.
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, explained that the situation had been misinterpreted, stressing that there was no deliberate attempt to compromise the airport or aviation operations.
According to the minister, the incident did not involve any form of coordinated terrorist or bandit attack on the facility, contrary to initial reports that sparked public anxiety.
He noted that aviation security agencies responded promptly and professionally, ensuring that normal operations were not disrupted and that passengers and airport personnel remained safe.
The clarification aligns with earlier statements by security authorities who maintained that there was no actual breach of airport security, and that the situation stemmed from intelligence-led intervention outside the core airport facility.
Reports also indicate that the confusion may have arisen from security operations carried out in surrounding areas, which were misrepresented as a direct threat to the airport.
The minister reassured Nigerians that all airports across the country remain secure, adding that the government is continuously strengthening surveillance, intelligence gathering, and rapid response mechanisms within the aviation sector.
He further urged the public and media organisations to verify information before dissemination to avoid unnecessary panic.
