The National Youth Service Corps has dismissed viral claims suggesting that it included a “ransom clause” advising corps members to prepare for ransom payments in case of kidnapping.
The scheme described the circulating document as fake and misleading, stressing that it is not an official publication and does not reflect its policies on the safety of corps members.
NYSC management explained that although a similar document was once presented by a consultant in 2021, it was never approved or adopted by the scheme.
The clarification comes amid renewed concerns on social media, where the document resurfaced and sparked fears about the safety of corps members across the country.
The scheme reassured corps members and their families that it remains committed to their welfare and security, noting that it continues to collaborate with security agencies and relevant stakeholders to enhance protection.
Authorities also urged the public to disregard the false claims and verify information before sharing, warning that misinformation could create unnecessary panic.
The development highlights ongoing concerns about security in Nigeria, particularly as it affects young graduates participating in the national service programme.
