Nigeria Not Collapsing, FG Insists
The Federal Government on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, strongly pushed back against assertions that the country is on the brink of collapse. Addressing a press conference in Abuja, government representatives countered recent reports and public commentary suggesting that escalating economic pressures and security concerns are overwhelming the nation’s governance structures.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation stated that while the administration acknowledges the significant difficulties many Nigerians are facing, describing the country as "collapsing" is an exaggeration that does not reflect reality. The government highlighted recent successes in debt management, local manufacturing incentives, and the ongoing judicial offensive against terrorism as evidence of a functioning and resilient state.

"Nigeria is not collapsing. To the contrary, we are in a period of necessary and painful restructuring that will eventually lead to a more stable and prosperous nation," the statement read. "The machinery of government is fully operational, and our democratic institutions are stronger than ever."

The FG also urged political leaders and social commentators to be mindful of their rhetoric, warning that "alarmist" language could deter foreign investment and dampen national morale. Instead, the administration called for unity and constructive engagement as they implement the next phase of their economic recovery plan. Despite the government's reassurance, civil society groups continue to call for more immediate and visible relief measures to cushion the effect of inflation and improve the day-to-day security of the average citizen.
