The National Universities Commission, NUC, has granted the Federal University of Technology, Akure, full accreditation for its programmes leading to the award of bachelor’s degrees in Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, Nutrition and Dietetics, Physiology, Human Anatomy, Information and Communication Technology, Computer Engineering, Industrial and Production Engineering, Building, and Remote Sensing and Geo-Science Information. Mechatronics Engineering was granted interim accreditation.
The accreditation outcome followed the October/November 2025 accreditation exercise conducted by the NUC in Nigerian universities. In the communication to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, the Commission said all the programmes presented by FUTA received full status except one, which got interim accreditation.
Reacting to the development, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oladiji, described the result as another strong endorsement of the institution’s academic quality, saying it reflects FUTA’s strength in both human and material resources. She also said the full accreditation of the MBBS programme, coming alongside the recent approval by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, had laid to rest earlier concerns surrounding the medical programme.
Recent reports show that the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria has also granted full accreditation to FUTA’s College of Health Sciences for the MBBS programme and approved an admission quota of 100 medical students after inspecting the university’s facilities, including its teaching hospital.
Professor Oladiji further expressed appreciation to Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Deji of Akure, and prominent sons and daughters of Akure for their support in making key components of the medical programme, including the teaching hospital and teaching medical laboratory, a reality.
