Fresh controversy has trailed the conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) State Congress in Ondo State, with the Oodua Progressive Youth League calling on the party’s national leadership to urgently intervene.
In a statement signed by its General Secretary, Wale Abdulwaheed, the group expressed concern over the congress allegedly held despite a restraining order issued by the Federal High Court sitting in Akure. The youth body described the development as troubling and warned that failure to address the matter promptly could deepen internal divisions within the party in the state.
The group urged the APC’s national leadership to take decisive steps to clarify the situation and preserve unity, noting that unresolved disputes could weaken the party’s structure ahead of future political engagements.
However, the APC National Secretary, Ajibola Bashiru, has dismissed claims that the party acted in defiance of the court order. Speaking yesterday, Bashiru maintained that the ruling party complied with the interim order restraining the conduct and recognition of congresses in Ondo State.
He emphasized that while the party may disagree with aspects of the court’s decision, it remains law-abiding and committed to due process.
The developments highlight ongoing tensions within the Ondo chapter of the APC, as stakeholders await further clarification from both the judiciary and the party’s national leadership.
