The Ondo State Police Command says its Special Anti-Cultism Squad has disrupted a suspected cult gathering in Akungba-Akoko and arrested five suspects during an intelligence-led operation. Police said the operation followed credible information from members of the public that some individuals were converging at a residential building and engaging in activities believed to be linked to cultism.
According to the command, the suspects were apprehended after operatives moved to the location and cordoned off the area. Police identified the suspects as Adesuye Dare, Ayeerun Joshua, Ojo Omole, Adu Dele, and Akeju Idowu. The command said preliminary investigation indicates that they are suspected members of the Eiye Confraternity.
The Police Command added that the suspects are in custody and are assisting investigators with useful statements, while further efforts are underway to uncover any wider network and prevent related criminal activity. The command also said the suspects would be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
Police authorities commended the operatives involved in the raid and also praised residents whose timely information made the arrest possible. The command restated its zero-tolerance stance on cultism and urged parents, guardians and young people to stay away from unlawful groups and continue to support security agencies with credible information.
