Players of Galatasaray S.K., including Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, have been promised a €5 million bonus if they eliminate Liverpool F.C. from the UEFA Champions League.
According to reports from Turkey, Galatasaray president Dursun Özbek made the promise to motivate the players ahead of the crucial second leg of their Round of 16 clash.
The Turkish giants secured a 1–0 victory over Liverpool in the first leg of the tie, giving them a slight advantage going into the return fixture.
Özbek reportedly informed the squad that the significant financial reward would be given if the team succeeds in advancing to the quarter-finals of the competition.
The incentive is seen as part of efforts by the club’s leadership to further boost the morale of the players as they aim to secure a historic qualification.
For Osimhen, who has been one of Galatasaray’s key attacking players this season, progressing past Liverpool would represent a major milestone both for the club and for his European campaign.
Football analysts say the second leg encounter is expected to be highly competitive, with Liverpool likely to push hard to overturn the first-leg deficit and keep their Champions League hopes alive.
