Oyo 2027: Makinde Moves To Name Successor

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has reportedly initiated strategic moves to identify and position a successor ahead of the 2027 general elections. Sources close to the Agodi Government House indicate that the Governor has commenced private consultations with core members of his inner circle, key stakeholders within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and influential traditional rulers across the state's five zones.

The move, which many political observers consider early, is seen as a tactical attempt to ensure the continuity of the "Seyi Makinde (Seyi Lekan)" legacy and prevent a chaotic power struggle within the ruling party. Unlike the buildup to previous elections, the Governor is said to be looking for a candidate who is not only loyal but possesses the technocratic competence to manage the state's expanding economy and infrastructure projects.

Several names have already begun to surface in political circles, ranging from current cabinet members to high-ranking legislative officials. However, the Governor has remained tight-lipped publicly, maintaining that his primary focus is still on delivering his "Omituntun 2.0" agenda. "The Governor is a master strategist; he knows that the stability of the PDP in Oyo State depends on a seamless transition," a party chieftain remarked on condition of anonymity.



The early maneuvers have already sparked intense discussions among opposition parties and various interest groups in Ibadan, Ogbomoso, Oyo, Iseyin, and Ibarapa. While some praise the Governor for proactive leadership, others warn that an early endorsement could distract from current governance goals.
