A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party aligned with Nyesom Wike has denied reports suggesting that it is supporting the re-election of Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
The group described the claims as false and misleading, insisting that its actions within the party are not aimed at promoting the electoral interests of the ruling All Progressives Congress.
The denial comes amid ongoing internal crisis within the PDP, where accusations and counter-accusations have continued to deepen divisions among party leaders.
Some party members had earlier alleged that the Wike-aligned bloc was working in favour of President Tinubu’s second-term ambition, a claim that has further strained relationships within the opposition party.
However, the faction maintained that it remains committed to the PDP and its political objectives, stressing that any suggestion of backing Tinubu’s re-election is unfounded.
The controversy reflects broader tensions within the party, especially following previous disputes involving key figures over alleged alliances and political positioning ahead of the 2027 elections.
Political analysts say the repeated denials and accusations highlight the deepening crisis within the PDP, which could impact its strength as an opposition party if unresolved.
