President Bola Tinubu has paid a strategic visit to Jos, Plateau State, following a series of coordinated attacks that left several residents dead and many others displaced in various rural communities. During his visit on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, the President met with Governor Caleb Mutfwang, traditional rulers, and representatives of the affected victims to offer condolences and outline a roadmap for lasting peace in the region.
Addressing a stakeholders' meeting at the Government House, the President condemned the killings as "senseless and un-Nigerian," vowing that his administration would no longer tolerate the persistent bloodletting on the Plateau. He emphasized that the security agencies have been given a clear mandate to identify, arrest, and prosecute the masterminds of the attacks, regardless of their status or affiliations.
Simultaneously, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) has directed the immediate deployment of additional Mobile Police Force (MPF) units and specialized counter-terrorism squads to the most volatile zones, including Mangu, Barkin Ladi, and Bokkos Local Government Areas. The IGP stated that the new deployment is intended to provide a permanent security presence in the hinterlands and prevent further reprisal attacks. Local community leaders expressed cautious optimism following the high-level visit, urging the federal government to ensure that the security measures are sustained beyond the current period of mourning.
