The Nigeria Police Force in Ondo State has dismissed reports that suspected bandits were arrested at the airport in Akure, describing the claim as misleading.
Earlier reports had suggested that the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria announced the arrest of four suspected bandits within the vicinity of the Akure Airport.
However, the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Adebawole Lawal, clarified that there are no bandits operating within the state.
Speaking on the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, explained that there was no security breach at the airport facility.
He stated that the police command only arrested two suspects after receiving credible intelligence from a concerned citizen.
According to him, the arrest was part of routine security operations carried out by the command to maintain safety and prevent criminal activities around strategic locations in the state.
Police authorities reassured residents and travellers that the airport and surrounding areas remain safe, while urging the public to verify sensitive security information before spreading it.
