The Kano State Police Command has recovered two stolen vehicles and a tricycle in separate operations across the state, as part of efforts to curb car theft and related crimes. The command also arrested three suspects in connection with one of the cases. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Kiyawa, this in a public address on Tuesday, noting that the recoveries were made through intelligence-led operations and community collaboration. based on the statement, the recovered items were subsequently handed over to their rightful owners, who praised the police for professionalism and prompt response.

In one case, police operatives attached to the Tarauni Area Command recovered a stolen Pontiac Vibe vehicle in Darmanawa Quarters on May 3. The vehicle, with registration number KMC-175CU and valued at about N12m, was reportedly stolen earlier the same day from the owner’s residence. “The owner was traced through the vehicle particulars. The vehicle was taken into safe custody and has since been released to him, while an investigation is ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects,” the statement indicated. In a related development, the command also recovered a 2004 Toyota Corolla LE, stolen in Abuja. The police indicated the vehicle was stolen on April 22 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, and later tracked to Darmanawa Layout in Kano.

“Operatives of the Special Intervention Squad acted swiftly on credible intelligence and recovered the vehicle. Efforts are ongoing to arrest the suspects already identified,”. In another operation, the police recovered a stolen CNG-powered tricycle and arrested three suspects. The tricycle rider was reportedly poisoned along Mararraban Jos in Kaduna State on May 1, after which the assailants fled with the vehicle.

Police operatives later intercepted the tricycle along Ring Road in Kano on May 3 and arrested the suspects, identified as Umar Rabi’u, Yahaya Hannafi, and Amina Muhammad. from the police, the suspects are currently assisting with the investigation, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other accomplices.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended officers involved in the operations for their professionalism and swift response. He also appreciated members of the public for providing timely information that aided the recoveries. Bakori reiterated the command’s commitment to tackling crime and warned criminal elements to desist or face the full weight of the law.

“The command will continue to dominate the public space and deny criminals freedom of action,” he showed. At a brief ceremony held at the police headquarters in Bompai, the beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the police for the recovery of their property without delay or extortion.

The police, however, advised residents to install tracking devices in their vehicles, avoid parking in isolated areas, and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
