Prosecutors in Norway have requested a prison sentence of more than seven years for Marius Borg Hoiby, the son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit, over multiple criminal charges including rape.
Hoiby, who is the stepson of Crown Prince Haakon, is facing numerous allegations involving sexual offences, violence, and other crimes.
According to prosecutors, the charges include the rape of four women, some of whom were allegedly unable to resist or were in vulnerable states at the time of the incidents.
The trial, which has lasted several weeks in Oslo, has drawn significant public attention and scrutiny due to Hoiby’s connection to Norway’s royal family.
Prosecutors argued that the severity and number of the offences justify a sentence of approximately seven years and seven months if he is found guilty.
Hoiby has pleaded not guilty to the most serious charges, including rape, but has admitted to some lesser offences.
The case has also highlighted broader concerns about equality before the law, with prosecutors stressing that Hoiby should neither receive harsher nor more lenient treatment because of his royal background.
The proceedings have included extensive evidence, including digital communications and testimonies, as well as details of the accused’s personal struggles with substance abuse.
The case has sparked widespread reactions in Norway, with many closely watching how the justice system handles a high-profile defendant connected to the monarchy.
If convicted, Hoiby could face a lengthy prison sentence, with the court expected to deliver its ruling after final submissions.
