The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has dismissed speculations that he plans to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Makinde stated clearly that he remains a member of the PDP and has no intention of leaving the party despite its ongoing internal challenges and recent wave of defections.
Speaking during a public engagement in Abuja, the governor emphasised that he is not prepared to follow other politicians who have defected to the APC, stressing his commitment to the opposition party.
He also noted that Nigeria’s progress depends on collaboration among leaders across party lines, rather than constant political realignments driven by personal interests.
Makinde further criticised the “winner-takes-all” approach in Nigerian politics, warning that it promotes division and weakens national unity.
The governor’s statement comes amid heightened political tension and a series of high-profile defections that have continued to reshape Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Observers say his reaffirmation of loyalty is significant, especially as the PDP navigates internal disputes and seeks to maintain its strength as a major opposition party.
