The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved N4 billion as take-off grants for the newly established Tinubu Polytechnic and a new university located in Epe, Lagos State.
The approval is intended to support the early operational phase of the institutions, including the development of critical infrastructure, procurement of learning equipment, and administrative setup.
Government officials explained that the intervention is part of broader efforts by the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu to strengthen tertiary education and expand access to technical and professional training in the country.
The take-off grants will help the institutions establish essential facilities such as classrooms, laboratories, workshops, and other academic structures required for effective learning.
Education stakeholders say the funding will also enable the institutions to recruit academic staff, develop curriculum programmes, and provide the basic operational framework needed for a smooth start.
The Federal Government noted that the initiative aligns with ongoing reforms aimed at improving the quality of higher education, promoting skills development, and supporting innovation within Nigeria’s tertiary education system.
Analysts believe that the development will also boost educational opportunities for students in Lagos and neighbouring states, while strengthening technical education through the polytechnic system.
