The United States government has issued a security alert warning its citizens in Nigeria about a possible terrorist threat targeting American facilities and affiliated institutions in the country.
In a statement released by the U.S. Embassy in Abuja, Americans were advised to exercise heightened caution and remain vigilant amid concerns over potential attacks.
According to the advisory, the potential threat may be directed at U.S. diplomatic facilities and U.S.-affiliated schools in Nigeria.
The embassy urged American citizens to take additional security precautions when visiting the U.S. Embassy in Abuja, the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos, and other related locations. Citizens were also advised to vary travel routes and timing, avoid unnecessary movement around sensitive locations, and closely monitor local media for security updates.
The alert forms part of routine security advisories issued by the U.S. government to protect its citizens abroad, especially in countries where there are concerns about terrorism or civil unrest.
U.S. authorities also encouraged citizens to cooperate with local security agencies and follow safety instructions issued by Nigerian authorities to reduce risks.
