No fewer than three United States military aircraft reportedly landed in Nigeria between Thursday and Friday, delivering ammunition and equipment to support the country’s fight against insurgency.
Military sources said the aircraft touched down at bases in Borno State and other parts of the North-East as part of ongoing Nigeria–US security cooperation.
A senior Defence Headquarters officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the delivery followed bilateral security engagements between both countries.
“Following Nigeria–US talks on security, the American government is providing logistics support, including ammunition, to assist in counterinsurgency operations,” the officer said.
Reports by The New York Times also indicated that US military aircraft landed in Maiduguri on Thursday night, with equipment being offloaded by Friday.
Social media posts further suggested that a US Air Force C-130J aircraft landed at Kaduna International Airport after departing from Ghana, fuelling speculation about expanded training and logistics collaboration.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigerian military had yet to issue an official statement on the development.
