A Nigerian man has cried out over what he described as rising cases harassment after witnessing officers of the Nigeria Police Force dragging a member of the National Youth Service Corps in public in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
In the video posted on X by #ChuksEricE on Tuesday, the eyewitness filmed the moment a youth corps member was being pulled away by some uniformed policemen in front of a school in Ado-Ekiti.
Two other uniformed corps members were also seen with them as onlookers watched the incident unfold.
Reacting behind the camera, the eyewitness expressed displeasure over the actions of the policemen.
“They cannot just sight a young man with a car, because they don’t have one,” he affirmed in Yoruba language.
“They’ll work for 40 years and yet not own a car. They are just working and have nothing to show for it. You and your generation don’t even own a car. All they know is to harass people,” he added.
The man also alleged that the officers attempted to seize his phone while he filmed the encounter.
“They want to come and collect my phone. Phone that your father bought for me abi?” He questioned.
In the background, other voices were heard urging that the officers be properly captured on camera and exposed online.
“Video them very well and post it online,” one voice remarked.
The witness was also heard warning the corps member not to go anywhere with the officers.
“No follow them go, no follow them go anywhere,” he shouted.
Although the exact circumstances that led to the confrontation remain unclear, the manner in which the corps member was pulled away in public has stirred criticism online, with many Nigerians questioning the conduct of the officers involved.
