Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has said his decision to join the All Progressives Congress was driven by the need to strategically align Kano with the centre of national governance to accelerate development.
Speaking at the 2026 Grand Rally held at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano, Yusuf said the state was too important to remain politically disconnected from the Federal Government.
“It is about placing Kano in a position where it can fully participate in national development and secure a better future for its citizens,” he stated, stressing that the move was about responsibility, not personal ambition.
He added that Kano must actively engage in President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to ensure the state benefits from federal reforms and programmes.
At the rally, APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, urged party members to support the governor, describing the turnout as a sign of unity and commitment.
Yusuf had in January resigned from the New Nigeria Peoples Party, citing internal crises, before formally joining the APC.
