The crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party has deepened as a faction backed by Nyesom Wike installed new party executives in three states.
The faction reportedly inaugurated new state executives in Bayelsa State, Ekiti State, and Oyo State as part of efforts to consolidate its control over party structures.
The group, which operates under a caretaker committee leadership, insisted that its actions were in line with the party’s constitution and aimed at restoring order within the PDP amid the ongoing leadership dispute.
The development is linked to the broader crisis that has split the party into rival camps—one aligned with Wike and another supported by several PDP governors. The disagreement stems largely from disputes surrounding the party’s national convention and leadership structure.
Earlier, the Wike-aligned bloc had also dissolved the executive committees of several state chapters and proposed the conduct of fresh congresses to reorganise the party’s leadership across affected states.
However, members of the opposing faction have criticised the move, describing it as illegal and warning that parallel structures could further destabilise the party ahead of future elections.
Political analysts say the latest development highlights the growing internal divisions within the PDP as the opposition party struggles to maintain unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
